26 January 2013 - Bothal, Northumberland.

This afternoon we walked to Bothal, where the overnight snow was melting quickly in the late sunshine.

Below are three roadside views between Bothal and Pegswood, followed by a view of the River Wansbeck at Bothal Weir. The last photo is a view across the countryside where the view is now dominated by giant wind turbines near Ashington.

Today we visited Newbiggin on a dull afternoon for a walk along the beach. There were few people about except for some dog walkers.

Below are three views along the beach and a view of the "Couple" sculpture in the bay.

22 January 2013 - QEII Country Park Walk, Ashington, Northumberland.

This afternoon we visited Queen Elizabeth II Country Park, Ashington for another walk around the lake. In complete contrast from our last visit, today was a dull and cloudy day.

The first photo below is a view from the south east corner of the lake, followed by a view looking across the lake in the direction of Woodhorn Museum. In the third photo one of the giant pylons is reflected in the calm water of the lake.

The last two photos are views of Swans, Geese and Cormorants beside the car park at the north end of the lake.

19 January 2013 - Bothal, Northumberland.

This afternoon we walked to Bothal and although it was dull and cloudy it was still quite a pleasant day with snow on the ground.

The first photo below is a view from the road between Bothal and Pegswood, followed by two photos of the River Wansbeck at Bothal Weir. The last photo is a view across the river to the large icicles on the rock face on the south side of the weir.

17 January 2013 - QEII Country Park Walk, Ashington, Northumberland.

This afternoon we visited Queen Elizabeth II Country Park, Ashington again for a walk around the lake. It was a day of clear blue skies and brilliant sunshine made even brighter by the snow.

In the first photo below swans were landing on the lake before making their way to join others gathering on the shore for a feed, as seen in the second photo.

The third photo is a view across the partly frozen lake towards the hotel and car park. The last two photos are views across the lake taken from beside the railway line to Woodhorn Museum.

15 January 2013 - QEII Country Park Walk, Ashington, Northumberland.

This afternoon we visited Queen Elizabeth II Country Park, Ashington for a walk around the lake. There had been heavy snow the night before and showers in the morning, so the snow was still lying nicely on the ground and trees.

Below are five photos taken from the footpath on the north and west sides of the lake in between snow showers.

09 January 2013 - Amble, Northumberland.

This morning after visiting Low Hauxley we drove along to Amble for a walk around the harbour and pier.

The sea was very calm, as seen in the first photo below looking towards Coquet Island. In the second photo one of a number of fishing boats is seen approaching the river entrance on it's return to Amble.

The third photo is a view along Amble Pier where new lighting columns have recently been installed. The fourth photo is a view of a small fishing boat leaving the harbour and the last photo is a view looking up the River Coquet towards Warkworth.

09 January 2013 - Low Hauxley, Northumberland.

This morning we visited Low Hauxley for a walk along the beach. As it was near high tide we knew we could only walk to the south end of the beach without needing to walk back along the path behind the dunes. Instead we started from the dunes on the north side of the village and decided to visit amble for another walk around the harbour when we got back.

The first photo below is a view from the rocks at Low Hauxley towards Amble and Alnmouth, followed by a view of Coquet Island, also seen from the rocks at Low Hauxley. The third photo is a view looking north along Low Hauxley Beach.

The fourth photo is a view from the dunes north of Low Hauxley towards Amble and Alnmouth and the last photo is view of Coquet Island also seen from the dunes.
