Les + Jan Bell - Photographers Diary - July 2012

25 July 2012 - Pegswood Station, Northumberland - Preserved Steam and Diesel Locos.

Today an excursion train passed through Pegswood Station on the East Coast main line, which is close to us so we went to take a few photos.

On the northbound journey to Edinburgh it was hauled by the Deltic Alycidon, as seen in the first two photos below. The return journey south was in the early evening and the train was hauled by the steam loco Tornado, as seen in the third and fourth photos.

While we were waiting in the evening two passenger trains passed on the station, one of which was just leaving, as seen in the last photo.

17 July 2012 - Rumbling Kern, Howick, Northumberland Coast.

Returning home from our walk along Embleton Beach we stopped at Howick and walked to the coast at Rumbling Kern. This is a cove with small a sheltered beach behind some low cliffs that face inland. A holiday cottage which used to be the bathing house for nearby Howick Hall overlooks the sea above the rocks.

Below are five views of the beach, rocks, cliffs and the bathing house.

17 July 2012 - Embleton Beach Walk, Northumberland.

This morning we visited Embleton Beach for a walk to Low Newton. When we set off there were a few other early morning walkers, as seen in the first two photos below, which are views looking north along the beach.

The third photo is a view looking in the other direction towards Dunstanburgh Castle. The last two photos are views of the beach on either side of the Embleton Burn, which was running quite high and required getting our feet wet to cross it.

12 July 2012 - Warkworth Beach and Amble Breakwater Walk, Northumberland.

This morning we visited Warkworth Beach and walked south as far as the River Coquet at Amble. On the return walk we were caught in a very heavy rain shower courtesy of the dark clouds in the first photo below, which is a view looking south along Warkworth Beach towards Amble and Coquet Island.

The next two photos are views from the north side of the River Coquet looking towards Amble and along the north breakwater. The fourth photo is a view of the Puffin Cruise boat leaving amble for Coquet Island shortly before the heavy rain shower and the last photo is a view of a fishing boat returning to Amble.
