25 October 2010 - River Tyne, Felling.

After a business visit to South Tyneside we stopped for a short walk along the south side of the River Tyne between Felling and Gateshead Stadium.

Below are three views looking across the River from the riverside footpath opposite St. Peter's Marina.

22 October 2010 - Pegswood Station, Northumberland.

An excursion train hauled by the steam engine Tornado was passing through Pegswood Station today on it's way to Edinburgh. It was a dull, damp morning, providing good contrast for the smoke and steam as the train passed by.

The first two photos below are views of the Tornado, which was travelling quickly, but much more quietly than a previous train we took photos of, hauled by the engine Bittern which was deafening.

The second two photos are views of passenger trains that passed by before the Tornado.

20 October 2010 - River Tyne Between Newburn to Wylam Walk.

Today we visited Tyne Riverside Country Park at Newburn for a walk to Wylam along the north bank of the River Tyne. Crossing the river via Hagg Bank Railway Bridge, we returned along the south side and crossed again at Newburn Bridge, returning to the visitor centre car park.

The first two photos are views along the footpath on the north side of the river between Newburn and Wylam. The third photo is a view of Hagg Bank Railway Bridge, which carried the railway from Newcastle via Wylam North Station, across the River Tyne, joining the main line on the south side of the river.

The fourth photo is a view of the River Tyne from Wylam Road Bridge, followed by a view from the south side of the river near Ryton. The last two photos are views taken from Newburn Bridge looking upstream and downstream.

17 October 2010 - Pegswood, Northumberland.

Tonight we decided to take some photos of the sculpture that was recently re-erected on Pegswood Roundabout. Officially called "Fire", presumably due to the new fire station nearby, it has also been called "Robin of Pegswood".

Below are two views of Robin, illuminated at night. The lights on the bowman change colour every few minutes.

16 October 2010 - Walk to Bothal, Northumberland.

Today we walked to Bothal, making the most of the bright autumn sunshine.

Below are two views of Bothal Castle and two views of the fields to the west of the village. The last photo is a view of the sculpture that was recently re-erected on Pegswood Roundabout.

07 October 2010 - Eyemouth, Scotland.

After visiting Burnmouth today we visited Eyemouth, a few miles up the coast, for a walk around the harbour. Shortly after we arrived the Eyemouth Lifeboat was returning to the harbour towing a fishing boat that seemed to have it's nets caught in it's propeller. Another fishing boat had a rope attached to the stern to keep the stricken boat under control while it was being towed into the harbour.

The first photo below is a view of Gunsgreen House, which overlooks the harbour, followed by two views of the lifeboat and fishing boats.

The fourth photo is a view of the Dredger Sandsend, which had been at Berwick the previous day, entering the Harbour. The fifth photo shows one of the larger fishing boats the White Heather VI making it's way to the quayside and the last photo is a view along the harbour and quayside.

07 October 2010 - Burnmouth, Scotland.

Today we visited Lower Burnmouth on the east coast of Scotland a few miles from the border, to take some photos for our Borders photo website.

The harbour and seafront are reached by a very steep road from Upper Burnmouth which provided the first two views below of the seafront cottages at Partanhall and the harbour.

The next two photos are views of the harbour where a fishing boat had just moored to unload it's catch.

The last two photos are views from the seafront looking north to the harbour and the cliffs towards Eyemouth, a little further up the coast and our next destination.

06 October 2010 - Berwick and River Tweed Walk, Northumberland.

This afternoon we walked along the River Tweed from Spittal to Berwick, crossing Berwick Old Bridge and along the footpath under the Royal Tweed and Royal Border bridges.

The first three photos below are views across the river taken from the jetty beside the Lifeboat Station at Tweedmouth. The fourth photo, taken from the same place, is a view of the bridges with two trains crossing the Royal Border Bridge.

The fifth photo is a view across the River Tweed beside Berwick Old Bridge and the last photo is a view of the sundial at the north end of the bridge.

05 October 2010 - Berwick Pier and River Tweed, Northumberland.

This afternoon we visited the mouth of the River Tweed at Spittal and then Berwick where we walked along the pier, watching a seal that kept popping up in the river.

The first two photos below are views of Berwick Pier and Lighthouse where a lone angler was trying his luck. The next two photos are views from the pier to Pier Road and to the shore at the Little Beach.

The last two photos are views of the Dredger Sandsend making it's way up the river to Tweed Dock.
