28 January 2008 - Nunriding Moor, Northumberland.
This afternoon we went for a walk at Nunriding Moor, near Morpeth, a place we visit all year round. Today it was nice and sunny with just a few clouds passing by, perfect for walking in the countryside.
A couple of days earlier though, the very strong winds had done some damage to some of the Scots Pine Trees that grow here. Some large branches were broken off, as seen in the second photo below. The first photo below is a view to Nunriding Moor, with a flock of sheep that we disturbed from the roadside.

24 January 2008 - Warkworth to Alnmouth Walk, Northumberland Coast.
This afternoon we walked to the River Aln along the beach from Warkworth. It was a windy day, but there was shelter by the dunes on some parts of the beach.
Not so near Alnmouth, where the strong west wind was blasting across the mouth of the River Aln, causing a mini sand storm.
Below are two photos at the mouth of the River Aln. The first view looks across the river to Alnmouth, while in the second view dry sand is being blown at high speed across the beach to the river mouth and sea.

20 January 2008 - Blyth South Beach walk, Northumberland Coast.
This afternoon we visited Blyth South Beach for a walk to the harbour. It was a very calm day with lots of people out and many dogs enjoying themselves in the sea as usual.
Below is a view looking north along the beach towards the piers and River Blyth.
When we were returning it was becoming dark and the colours of the sky and very calm sea were merging to almost look the same. This gave the piers and lighthouse the appearance of floating in space, as seen in the second photo.

19 January 2008 - Bothal, Northumberland.
Another walk to the River Wansbeck at Bothal, this time to the weir at Bothal Mill.
The river was still running quite strongly over the weir as seen in the photo below.

12 January 2008 - Bothal, Northumberland.
This afternoon we walked to the River Wansbeck at Bothal. It was a dull afternoon and still a bit frosty.
The river was still running a bit higher than normal after recent rain and the stepping stones were not passable without wellies or getting your feet wet.
This dog on the other side looked as if he would have liked to cross but didn't want to get wet!

09 January 2008 - Tyne Valley, Northumberland.
This morning we visited the Tyne Valley to take some photos for our Northumberland Photos website. We went to Wylam first where the bridge has recently opened again after being closed to have new barriers fitted. Below is a view taken from the station footbridge looking across the River Tyne to Wylam Village.
The second photo is a view from the footbridge at Prudhoe Station a few miles along the Tyne Valley Railway. This is one of the lines where the old semaphore signals are still in use along with light signals.

05 January 2008 - Druridge Bay Walk, Northumberland.
This afternoon we went for a walk at the north end of Druridge Bay on the Northumberland Coast. There was a lot of Kelp on the beach, probably after recent rough seas, but the sea was very calm today.
Below are two photos from the far north of the bay at Bondi Carrs rocks, which were just starting to be uncovered by the ebbing tide.

03 January 2008 - Meldon, Northumberland.
Today we visited the countryside around Meldon to take some winter photos for our Northumberland photo website. There was no snow at home when we left, but a few miles west a few inches had fallen.
Most of the roads we drove on were OK but some, like this hill leading to Meldon Village were snowbound and only passable by 4 wheel drive vehicles due to other cars spinning their wheels half way up and turning the snow to ice. The second photo below shows the road from Meldon to Morpeth, quite snowy here but clear a bit further on.
