26 June 2007 - Amble, Northumberland.
Tonight we made what will probably be our last evening visit to Amble Harbour - parking charges (tax) have now been introduced until 9-00 pm (Except Sunday). Needless to say we won't be paying to park here - we'll just go elsewhere.
Anyway - tonight was a night of very dark clouds and occasional rays of sun through holes in the cloud.

22 June 2007 - Blyth, Northumberland.
A visit to Blyth Quayside this afternoon to take photos for our Northumberland Photo website.
Although it was fine and sunny there were not many people about. However shortly after taking the photo below a local sitting on a bollard enjoying a cigar lamented the reduction of shipping on the River.
Apart from the funnel of a Russian Ship in the new harbour no ships were in sight on a river where they were once built, repaired and dismantled and where coal ships used to queue up to load with coal from nearby pits. In contrast, the Russian ship was offloading imported coal.

21 June 2007 - Sunrise at Coquet Island, Northumberland.
A very early start today on the first day of summer to photograph the sun rising over the North Sea at Coquet Island. One of only a handful of days a year when this photo is possible the weather obliged to provide a clear sky and a fantastic sunrise.
In this photo taken from the dunes near Hauxley with a long lens the sun has just cleared the horizon directly behind the lighthouse. A few minutes later one of the Amble Fishing Fleet, the Star Divine, was sailing past the island as the sun was a bit higher in the sky.

20 June 2007 - Bothal, Northumberland.
A walk to Bothal today where Poppies are in abundance everywhere, even along the verges of the new Pegswood Bypass road which were bare until recently.
This field in particular has turned red where the poppies are growing among Oil Seed Rape that has finished flowering.

18 June 2007 - Amble, Northumberland.
After days of wet weather it was very fine at the coast this afternoon and evening, unlike inland where it was still dull. So we went for an evening walk around the harbour at Amble.
It was high tide and waves were breaking over the breakwater so people had to run the gauntlet to reach the pier. Some didn't make it.

11 June 2007 - Alnwick, Northumberland.
Today we visited Alnwick in Northumberland for a walk around the Town Centre.
We parked near the entrance to Hulne Park and walked past the Church of Saint Michael's and the Castle entrance.
This is a good place to view some of the many stone figures that have stood on top of the Castle battlements for centuries. Apparently they were built to fool Scottish invaders into thinking there were always guards on the walls.
The Castle proved invincible and the statues are still there as the photo below shows.

01 June 2007 - River Wansbeck, Northumberland.
The River Wansbeck was the local destination on this fine afternoon for some photos of the weir near Mitford. The river was far from being in full flow as can be seen below taken from the nearby bridge.
