07 January 2007 - River Coquet, Warkworth, Northumberland.
We returned to the River Coquet today in finer weather
to take some photos of Warkworth Castle for a website. Photos were
taken from various places at Amble using a very long camera lens.
This photo was taken from the quay at Amble in early
afternoon looking across Warkworth Harbour and up the River Coquet
to the Castle.

23 January 2007 - Bothal, Northumberland.
A light overnight shower provided the first snow of
the winter today. Not heavy enough to turn the fields very white
though.
Here is a view of Bothal Castle with snow on top of
the walls and on the fields in front.

21 January 2007 - Warkworth, Northumberland.
Today we visited Warkworth for a walk along the River
Coquet to the Castle and Village.
When we left home the sun was shining and the sky
was blue - that swiftly changed as we approached Warkworth and rain
was obviously approaching.
In the first photo below Warkworth Castle is still
lit by sunshine from the south while the sky overhead is dark and
grey. In the second photo the north bank of the River Coquet is
lit up by sunshine and a rainbow.

16 January 2007 - Elsdon, Northumberland.
Today, on a beautiful winters day we visited Redesdale
in Northumberland to take photos for websites.
On the way home we stopped at Elsdon to take some
late afternoon photos of the Church and village green.
The sun was low and producing a nice warm glow on
the church and surrounding buildings.
It was also reflecting in the windows of Elsdon Tower,
seen here behind St. Cuthbert's Parish Church.

14 January 2007 - River Wansbeck, Bothal
Weir.
A walk to the River Wansbeck at Bothal today, sheltered
from the strong winds in the deep valley in which it lies here.
This area is part of the local councils "flagship" Castles,
Woods Water scheme to provide a lovely walk from Bothal to
Mitford.
A noble idea as the River Wansbeck is certainly a
lovely place to walk as the first photo below of Bothal weir shows.
There's some cleaning up work to do yet though as
the second photo below of Bothal Mill Stream shows that very little
water but plenty of beer seems to flow here!!

13 January 2007 - Amble, Northumberland
Coast.
After a few very windy days we decided to visit Amble
for a walk around the harbour and pier. The wind had dropped in
the morning but was getting much stronger again in the afternoon.
Normally the Cormorants and Gulls are lined up along
their favourite perch, which is one of the old mooring jetties,
but today as the tide was out they were on the sands below.
In this photo you can tell which way the strong wind
was blowing - the birds, almost without exception, were facing into
it.

10 January 2007 - Bothal, Northumberland.
A late afternoon walk to Bothal today shortly before
sunset. There were very dark clouds moving swiftly across the sky
producing sunny intervals with dark threatening skies.
The first photo shows fields looking nice and green
with new crops under heavy cloud. Shortly after there was a very
colourful sunset.

05 January 2007 - Newbiggin-by-the-Sea,
Northumberland Coast.
A visit to Newbiggin on the South East Northumberland
Coast this afternoon to take a few photos across the bay. The sun
came and went for most of the afternoon which produced some good
sunny views against dark skies.
Here is a view of the Cafe Riviera and other light
painted buildings lit up by sunshine against a very dark sky.

04 January 2007 - Berwick-upon-Tweed,
Northumberland.
Today we visited Berwick-upon-Tweed to take stock
photos and website photos. It was a beautiful Winter day with clear
blue skies, but still a blustery wind blowing across the the River
Tweed.
We walked along the pier in the morning to take photos
of the lighthouse and river before walking over the historic Old
Bridge and back across the New Bridge to the town centre and shops.
Later we returned to the Town Walls to take more photos (over 200
in total).
The first photo below looks along Pier Road to the
Town Walls, while the second photo looks north across the River
Tweed from the shore between the Old Bridge and New Bridge (a favourite
feeding place for Swans)

02 January 2007 - Bothal, Northumberland.
A walk to Bothal on a lovely sunny morning, much calmer
after the strong winds of recent days, quite warm in fact.
Sheltered in the valley of the River Wansbeck, Bothal
Castle provides a scenic backdrop for the sheep grazing happily
in the winter sunshine.

01 January 2007 - Nunriding, Northumberland.
A New Year's day walk in the countryside west of Morpeth
this afternoon to blow away the cobwebs.
It was still very windy and while the weather once
again turned dull in mid afternoon, the sky still had plenty of
colour with fast moving clouds.
This tree silhouette is courtesy of the "spooky
trees" - a row of trees that often provides a good foreground
for a sky shot.
