18 February 2007 - Amble, Northumberland Coast.

A mid afternoon walk around the pier and harbour at Amble today - still busy after the Sunday Market on the quayside.

It was high tide and most of the Amble fishing fleet were returning to harbour with their catch.

This boat, seen here making it's way along the river entrance always makes a colourful photo.

17 February 2007 - Rothley, Northumberland.

Today we went for an afternoon walk at Rothley in Northumberland. After parking at Rothley crossroads we walked along the quiet road past Rothley West Shield Farm towards the old quarry, as far as the junction of the track to Greenleighton.

Here is a photo showing the view towards Greenleighton in the distance.

06 February 2007 - Amble, Northumberland Coast.

Another beautiful sunny but cold day, taking photos of Coquet Island from the pier at Amble.

It was low tide and a fishing boat was moving past the island towards the river entrance which was looking a bit rough.

The boat headed into the river and got a rough ride while it was passing the end of the pier until it reached calmer waters, as these three photos show.

05 February 2007 - Hadrian's Wall, Northumberland.

Today we visited the Roman Wall in Northumberland for a walk along the wall from Housesteads Roman Fort and to take photos for our Northumberland photo website.

It was yet another beautiful sunny day after a frosty start, but the frost was hanging on along north facing slopes and there was mist in the Tyne Valley.

Walking along here the views are tremendous, but I dare say the Roman Soldiers whose misfortune it was to be posted to this far flung outpost thought it was the end of the world.

The first photo below shows the Roman Wall at Hotbank Crags, while the second view is from Housesteads Fort and the third is of the fort looking east.

03 February 2007 - Simonside Hills, near Rothbury, Northumberland.

Today we went hill walking in the Simonside hills near Rothbury. A popular walking place and in weather like we had today that's hardly surprising - the views from here are fantastic in every direction.

We did a circular walk starting in the forest car park, walking up through the forest trails to Dove Crag and then up to the crags at the east end of the Simonside Plateau and on to the top of the main crags before descending straight down to the forest trail and back down to the car park.

Below are three mid afternoon photos from Simonside. The first looks east to Dove Crag in the distance and beyond to the Northumberland Coast and the North Sea. The second looks north over Thropton and the River Coquet Valley towards the Cheviot Hills, which had a slight haze over them. The third was taken from the side of the crags, again looking north.

02 February 2007 - River Tyne, Shipyards and Fish Quay.

A visit to both sides of the River Tyne today, starting at Hebburn to take some photos across the river of the cranes at Swan Hunters before they are dismantled.

Later in the afternoon and early evening was spent at North Shields Fish Quay to take some photos after sunset.

The third photo below shows the shipyard cranes now standing motionless, awaiting their fate. The middle photo looks up the River Tyne at twilight and the top photo shows a full moon rising over the Fish Quay.
