30 August 2007 - Hawick, Scotland.
Today we visited Hawick in Scotland for a walk around the town centre and riverside. Although the weather was changeable we managed to take a few photos for our Borders Photos website.
On our return route we passed through Wauchope Forest, where some of the finest views in the Borders can be seen. You can see to Carter Bar, The Cheviot and beyond to the East Coast, well worth a visit.
Below is a view of the High Street in Hawick and a view at Wauckhope Forest to Carter Bar and the Cheviot Hills.

29 August 2007 - Liddel Water, Scottish Borders.
Today we walked over the moors to Saughtree in the valley of Liddel Water in the Scottish Borders.
As we passed over a hill called Windy Knowe we had a laugh at a small herd of cattle who spotted us coming. Being inquisitive beasts they all stared at us, then moved together looking like they had formed a battle line, ready to charge. As we approached closer they suddenly turned, ran down the hill and never stopped until they were completely out of sight - we never saw them again!
Below is a photo of the cattle and a photo of Liddel Water near Saughtree.

28 August 2007 - Leaplish Waterside Park, Kielder, Northumberland.
This evening we were at Leaplish Waterside Park, Kielder and after a very heavy rain shower we took a walk through the forest and along the lakeside.
It was shortly before sunset and the sky was clearing a little. Unfortunately it was ideal Midge weather and they were out in force by the lake so we didn't hang around and just took a few photos, one of which is the view below across Kielder Water, next to the ferry landing.

25 August 2007 - Blyth South Beach, Northumberland Coast.
This afternoon we went for a walk along the south beach at Blyth to the harbour. It was quite busy and there were people having a good time on their jet skis.
One jet ski looked particularly powerful and is seen here in front of a cargo ship that was entering the River Blyth.

24 August 2007 - Milbourne, Northumberland.
This afternoon we visited the small village of Milbourne, near Ponteland in Northumberland. There is a lovely country church here in a very quiet location off the beaten track.
The church, Holy Saviour, has a chiming clock, which sounds particularly nice in the countryside when all around is quiet. Locations like this are like travelling back in time to a bygone era that many people these days probably yearn for.
As you can see it was ten minutes to four on a beautiful afternoon when this photo was taken.

23 August 2007 - Mitford Castle, Northumberland.
An evening visit to Mitford today for a walk in the countryside around the Castle Ruins. A warm night but not much sunshine until we were passing the Castle on our return. There are not many sections of the Castle remaining, the section of wall in this photo is the only major structure left standing.

13 August 2007 - Amble, Northumberland Coast.
It seems as if we haven't ventured far this month due to the weather. Most of the time we have visited the coast near Amble in the evenings. Today was another day like that. Here is a late evening view of fishing boats in the River Coquet.

09 August 2007 - Hauxley Beach, Northumberland Coast.
Tonight we walked on the south side of the River Coquet at Hauxley, on another fine night. The tide was out and although it was cool there were some people who had been bathing in the sea. Not a very warm place to swim in any weather.
Here is a view of Coquet Island from the beach - not far to swim if it wasn't so cold!

08 August 2007 - Warkworth Beach, Northumberland Coast.
Another fine evening walk, this time to the beach at Warkworth, between Amble and Alnmouth, one of our favourites. The tide was out and the sand firm for walking.
Below is a photo of what appears to be three lighthouses in a row, but the centre one is Coquet Island seen between and beyond the two Amble lights which are on either side of the river Coquet.
Earlier in the day we visited Morpeth where Carlisle Park is now looking very nice with summer bedding plants and perennials in full bloom.

06 August 2007 - Simonside Hills, Northumberland.
This evening we went walking in the Simonside Hills, near Rothbury in Northumberland. After a dullish day the sky cleared for a beautiful evening allowing extensive views in all directions and to the Northumberland Coast.
We walked along the ridge to the base of Dove Crag, on this route the view to Rothbury in the River Coquet Valley and to the hills beyond is particularly fine, as this photo shows.

05 August 2007 - Cresswell, Northumberland Coast.
An early evening walk along the beach at Cresswell today. After a sunny afternoon, the sky was hazy with a few sunny spells. We walked north only to find the way barred by a steel fence on the small cliffs at the south end of Druridge Bay, so we returned back along the rocks. Parts of this beach and the rocks were very smelly when we visited so we won't be going back in a hurry.
When the sun shone we managed a few photos, this one is looking south towards Snab Point.
