26 April 2007 - Morpeth and Amble, Northumberland.
Today we visited Amble in the early evening for a walk around the harbour. The tide was out and river was very low. Almost the entire Amble fishing fleet were out with one boat left at the quayside, as the photo below shows.
Earlier in the day we visited Morpeth to take photos by the River Wansbeck. The second photo below is of the footbridge which spans the river on the piers of the old bridge.

18 April 2007 - Newcastle upon Tyne.
Today we visited Newcastle to take photos from the Tyne Bridge for our Tyne Photos website.
The morning was very sunny but cold on the bridge and windy. We also intended taking some photos around the city centre with a new compact camera we are trying, but the weather swiftly changed to cloudy and dull after a few shots. This matched some of the streets that are sadly looking very tired and run down with many empty shops so we left early.
Below are two views from the Tyne Bridge - the first looking towards the Moot Hall and Newcastle Keep, the second is a view down to the Quayside. The third photo is the monument to Queen Victoria, looking very regal on her throne, outside St. Nicholas Cathedral.

17 April 2007 - Ilderton, Roseden and Roddam, Northumberland.
Today we went for a walk on the edge of the Cheviot Hills in Northumberland. It was a circular route starting at Roddam and walking over Ilderton Moor to Ilderton, then over Roseden Edge to Roseden. Lovely and sunny when we started but the weather can change quickly here and it did - cloudy and light rain by the time we were half way around. Then the sun returned.
The walk will be added to our Northumberland Walks website.
Below are two photos, the first is a view from Roseden Edge and the second a view of St. Michael and All Angels Church at Ilderton.

12 April 2007 - Morpeth, Northumberland.
A walk around Morpeth today to test a new compact camera for taking photos around towns. The weather was not perfect, sunny but rather hazy.
Below is a test photo of Morpeth Court seen from Carlisle Park - always a colourful place.

09 April 2007 - Warkworth and Alnmouth, Northumberland Coast.
A visit to the coast today to walk along the beach from Warkworth to Alnmouth and back. Not as sunny as forecast but still nice in the morning. This is a superb beach for walking, but best at low tide to get past the rocks beside the caravan park half way along.
At Alnmouth you get a great view across the river from Church Hill, covered in Daffodils at this time of year, as seen in the photo below. The second photo shows the very flat beach at low tide.

08 April 2007 - Nunriding, Northumberland.
Today on Easter Sunday we went for a walk in the countryside west of Morpeth. When we parked in our usual spot a flock of sheep hurried towards us making a lot of noise. Perhaps they thought we were there to feed them - here are two with their heads poking though a gate staring at us.
The second photo shows a row of pines we have photographed often throughout the year - they always make a good subject.

07 April 2007 - Amble, Northumberland Coast.
This afternoon we took one of our regular walks around the pier and harbour at Amble. A lovely day but cool at the pier as many dressed in shirtsleeves found out.
Although many of the commercial fishing boats were in the harbour there were a lot of pleasure craft coming and going. In the first photo below a fishing party is returning to Amble past the Lighthouse. The second photo shows other fishing parties passing the many Eider Ducks and Gulls on the River Coquet.

06 April 2007 - Cheviot Hills, Northumberland.
Today we went walking in the Cheviot Hills, starting in the River Coquet Valley beyond Alwinton. The day started bright but clouds rolled in by late morning and it stayed overcast for most of the afternoon.
We walked from the valley to Rowhope and followed the track towards Uswayford, turning off along the Border County Ride bridleway that leads to Barrowburn. From there we returned along the valley.
The first photo below was taken looking north along the Border County Ride towards Ward Law - if you look closely you can see the one pool of sunlight of the afternoon!
The second photo was taken looking down Lounges Knowe, Barrowburn and the river Coquet.

04 April 2007 - Warkworth, Northumberland.
A visit to Warkworth today to take some stock photos of the Castle and it's famous Daffodils. This year is a good year for Daffodils and displays seem better than last year. They certainly look good around the Castle.
There is also plenty of colour beside the old bridge and gateway as the second photo shows.
