30 December 2006 - Boulmer, Northumberland Coast.
This afternoon we went for our usual Saturday afternoon
walk. We had intended going inland but the blue skies suddenly disappeared
so we headed to the coast instead at Boulmer.
It was too dull most of the time for normal photography
but a photo of the local church provided the opportunity to produce
an "atomic" sky.

25 December 2006 - Warkworth Beach,
Northumberland Coast.
On Xmas day we usually go for a beach walk to get
some fresh air. Today was dull at first but brightened up a little
in the afternoon so we visited Warkworth Beach and walked along
to the North Breakwater at Amble.
On the way back it was getting quite dark and the
lighthouse at Coquet Island was working. It now has some white lights
in use instead of it's familiar red lamp.
In this view the lights are flashing on the lighthouse,
on the right is Amble North Breakwater.

23 December 2006 - Amble, Northumberland
Coast.
Today we went for one of our regular walks around
the harbour at Amble. The sea was very calm - almost as flat as
we've ever seen it.
In this photo the north navigation light and breakwater
take on a warm glow, shortly before sunset.

21 December 2006 - St. Mary's Loch,
Borders, Scotland.
Today in beautiful weather on the shortest day of
the year and the official first day of winter, we visited St. Mary's
Loch, Loch of Lowes and Megget Reservoir.
These three lakes are in the Scottish Borders and
are set in superb scenery in an area rich in history.
The first photo below shows St. Mary's Loch, the second
is the head of the Loch of Lowes and the last is Megget Reservoir
about half an hour after sunset.

20 December 2006 - Peebles, Scotland.
Today we visited Peebles in the Scottish Borders.
It was a very fine day, although also very cold. Peebles is a nice
and very busy little town nestling in the valley of the River Tweed.
The river was still running quite high after the recent
wet weather but had obviously been much higher.
Below are two views looking west along the River Tweed
and the footpath along the river bank which is a very pleasant place
to walk.

16 December 2006 - Seaton Sluice to
St. Mary's Island.
This afternoon we walked from Seaton Sluice along
the cliffs to St. Mary's Island which lies just off the North East
coast at Whitley Bay.
The tide was on it's way out so the causeway was uncovered
and quite a few people were enjoying a walk across to the island.
The sea was quite calm and people were also out sailing. Further
south some very large ships were entering the river Tyne.
Here is a view of St Mary's Island in the late afternoon
sun with walkers on the causeway and a yacht sailing past the lighthouse.

09 December 2006 - Boulmer, Northumberland
Coast.
This afternoon we walked from Boulmer along the beach
to Alnmouth and back. It was cold but sunny with clear skies and
quite a few people were out enjoying the sea air.
Unfortunately the sea air at the south end of Boulmer
Haven was quite the smelliest we have ever come across - absolutely
foul - like sewage. Very unusual for this coast.
It soon disappeared though as we rounded Seaton Point
and headed towards Alnmouth.
Here is a view of the rocks at Seaton Point glowing
in the late afternoon sun.

06 December 2006 - Quayside, Newcastle
upon Tyne.
A visit to the Quayside at Newcastle today to take
photos of the bridges shortly after nightfall. The tide was in and
the River Tyne was very high after all the recent rain - only about
a foot from the low part of the quay beneath the Swing Bridge.
The quayside is a popular place and quite a few people,
some obviously tourists, were taking photos.
Here is a photo looking towards the Tyne Bridge with
the High Level Bridge (still with tarpaulins) and Swing Bridge seen
beyond. The second photo, taken before darkness shows how high the
river was.

02 December 2006 - Amble Harbour, Northumberland
Coast.
A walk around the harbour at Amble today, returning
from the shops as it was getting dark. The lights were on along
the pier and above them the moon was making it's own contribution.
Two photos - one of the pier and moon, the second
of Moonlight over the sea beside Coquet Island.

01 December 2006 - Blyth Harbour, Northumberland
Coast.
A visit to Blyth South Harbour and Beach today to
take some photos for our Northumberland website.
It was a lovely afternoon with clear skies overhead
and some cloud out to sea.
While taking photos around the harbour a cargo ship
loaded with some large circular fabrications was leaving the port.
The ship was named the Oscar Tallinn and is seen below
reversing from the South Harbour and in the second shot it is approaching
the East Pier Lighthouse on it's way down the River Blyth.
