Les + Jan Bell - Photographers Diary - Nov. 2005

29 Nov. 2005 - Morpeth, Northumberland.

A visit to Morpeth tonight to take some photos of the Xmas lights for our Northumberland Website. It was a very cold night with not many people about.

Below is a view along Bridge Street past the Market Place.

29 Nov. 2005 - Cambois Beach, Northumberland.

This afternoon we visited the mouth of the River Wansbeck and walked along Cambois Beach shortly before sunset.

The setting sun was reflecting in the windows of caravans at Sandy Bay Caravan Park on the north side of the river, as seen in the photo below.

22 Nov. 2005 - Bothal, Northumberland.

It was very frosty this morning with freezing fog so we went for a walk through the fields to Bothal to take some photos. It was very calm and everywhere was eerily white and silent.

Below is a view towards Bothal Village, which would normally be visible from here, but is hidden in mist.

19 Nov. 2005 - Amble, Northumberland.

Today we visited Amble for a walk around the harbour at sunset and what a lovely sunset it was as the sky turned orange and reflected on the water, seen here from halfway along the breakwater to the pier.

18 Nov. 2005 - Fontburn Reservoir, Northumberland.

A visit to Fontburn Reservoir today to take some photos for our Northumberland Photos Website on a fine November day. Fontburn is very popular with Anglers and there were quite a few out today.

Below is view of the valve tower and walkway reflecting in the mirror-like surface of the reservoir.

A late afternoon walk to Bothal today for a colourful sunset, seen here over the woods beside the River Wansbeck.

12 Nov. 2005 - Nunriding, Northumberland.

This afternoon we went for a walk at Nunriding, near Morpeth, a place we visit often.

07 Nov. 2005 - River Tweed, Coldstream, Scotland.

One of the three places we visited today was the town of Coldstream on the north bank of the River Tweed, just over the Border in Scotland. We walked from the town centre along the riverside footpath to the road bridge over the river.

Below is a view along the river past the monument to the bridge.

07 Nov. 2005 - Flodden, Northumberland.

We visited Flodden Battlefield today, scene of one the bloodiest battles between England and Scotland - over 14,000 soldiers were left dead or dying here in a single day in 1513, including King James iv of Scotland.

Below is a view along the marshy ground where most of the battle took place and close to the point where King James is thought to have died.

07 Nov. 2005 - Twizel, Northumberland.

We also visited Twizel today, where the bridge over the River Till was used by the English Army on their way to the Battle of Flodden. Nearby is Twizel Castle - not a castle at all but a folly that was never completed.

Below are photos of the bridge and castle.

01 Nov. 2005 - Eyemouth, Berwickshire, Scotland.

Today we visited Eyemouth on the Berwickshire Coast in Scotland. Eyemouth is still a busy fishing port and the harbour is a nice place to visit and stroll around. Like most small fishing ports there is always something going on, including a man training seals to jump from the water for food when we were there.

Below is a view of the harbour entrance and the Eyemouth Lifeboat.

01 Nov. 2005 - St. Abbs, Berwickshire, Scotland.

After visiting Eyemouth we moved a little further along the coast to St. Abbs, where the weather turned a bit dull. Also a fishing port and popular with divers and day visitors it's also a pleasant place to spend an hour or two.

Below is a view of some fishing boats moored in the harbour.
