29 Dec. 2005 - Cockle Park, Northumberland.
After more overnight snow we went to the area around Cockle Park to take photos on roads that hadn't seen much traffic.
Everywhere was crisp and white, quite rare these days. This view was taken near the bridge over the opencast haul road looking east to an overcast sky over the sea.
The middle view is the road from Longhirst to Pegswood, where the snow was more compacted by heavier traffic. Later in the day we visited Bothal to take some winter views of Bothal Castle, seen in the third photo below.

28 Dec. 2005 - Nunriding, Northumberland.
Today we visited Nunriding near Morpeth for a rare walk in the snow along country lanes. It was a perfect Winter day, blue skies, cold and crisp with crunchy snow underfoot. The scene could have been any time in the last century but as the local bin wagon surprisingly trundled past we were reminded that it wasn't.

25 Dec. 2005 - Amble, Northumberland.
Xmas Day - in recent years we have gone for a walk along the beach in the afternoon, but this year the weather was dull and damp so we just walked around the harbour and pier at Amble. There were a few, but not many people who like us, are sick of watching junk on TV and were out to blow the cobwebs away.
Below is a view of the quayside at Amble looking towards the mouth of the River Coquet.

23 Dec. 2005 - Bothal, Northumberland.
This morning we went to Bothal to take some stock photos of the Bothal Castle for a photo library submission. A nice clear morning with the Beech hedges looking nicely coloured in the winter sun.

19 Dec. 2005 - Stocksfield Station, Northumberland.
After a visit to Bywell and en route to Prudhoe, we stopped at Stocksfield to take a few photos of Stocksfield Railway Station on the Tyne Valley line from Newcastle to Carlisle. Like most stations along this line the traditional red of the footbridges and signal boxes has been maintained but the visual character of the stations has been destroyed by the horrible blue painting of shelters, lamp posts and signs.

19 Dec. 2005 - Prudhoe Castle.
Prudhoe Castle was closed when we visited today, but from the outside, the ruins that are normally obscured by trees, were visible through the bare branches, as seen in this view from across the small lake.

19 Dec. 2005 - Bywell, Northumberland.
The small hamlet of Bywell in the Tyne Valley was once an important settlement with two churches and a castle. we paid a visit today to take some photos of the area for our Northumberland Photos website.
Below is a view of the Castle tower which forms part of a private house.

17 Dec. 2005 - Nunriding, Northumberland.
A late afternoon walk to Nunriding at sunset today. We've often taken photos of these "spooky" trees at various times of day and year, but they always look particularly good with the sunset behind them.

07 Dec. 2005 - Mitford, Northumberland.
On a sunny but very cold and frosty morning we walked to Mitford near Morpeth. Along the path by the River Font the frost had hardened the ground but further on along the path to West Benridge it became very muddy so we turned back.
