Les + Jan Bell - Photographers Diary - January 2016
27 January 2016 - Bothal, Northumberland.

This morning we walked to Bothal, stopping to take some photos of the castle as seen in the first two views below. Although we've photographed this castle many times before there is always the opportunity for slightly different views and colours in the photos.

The last three photos are views along the road between Bothal and Pegswood where early crops were shooting through and turning the fields green.

16 January 2016 - Ashington Community Woods, Northumberland.

This morning we walked through Ashington Community Woods on the north side of the town. It was frosty and there were still some patches of snow from earlier in the week.

The first photo below is a view of the small pond in the woods which was frozen over, followed by a view of the lake at Haydon Letch which was also partly frozen.

The last three photos are views along the frozen footpath beside the old railway from Ashington to Linton.

15 January 2016 - Bothal, Northumberland.

This morning we walked through the woods to Bothal. It was frosty and there had been a light snow shower during the night, but it was also sunny and bright.

The first photo below is a view from the woods across Brocks Burn which was returning to it's normal level after heavy rain, as seen in the second photo. The third photo is view along the footpath from Bothal to Pegswood.

The fourth photo is a view towards Bothal Castle with a well wrapped up horse grazing in a nearby field. The last photo is a view along the road from Bothal to Pegswood which still had a few icy patches.

10 January 2016 - Pegswood, Northumberland.

This afternoon we walked through Pegswood Country Park to the lake just as the sun was setting.

Part of the footpath through the park was completely flooded after heavy rain as seen in the first three photos below

After a detour via the road we arrived at the lake just as the sun had dropped below the horizon and lit up the clouds and sky with a fiery glow, as seen in the fourth photo.

The last photo is a view of one of the horses that are kept in a field beside the park.

06 January 2016 - Bothal, Northumberland.

This morning we visited Bothal to see if the River Wansbeck was still as high as it had been the previous night at Morpeth. The river was still high but it was obvious that it had dropped a lot overnight.

The first photo is a view of the River at Bothal Mill where there was evidence of flooding the night before. The next two photos are views further downstream at Bothal Stepping Stones which were submerged by at least six foot of water. Judging by the sand and debris we were standing on the level had been much higher the night before.

The last two photos are views of Brocks Burn in Bothal Woods looking more like a small river.

05 January 2016 - Morpeth, Northumberland.

This evening we visited Morpeth where the River Wansbeck was running at a very high level after very heavy rain. There was already flooding on some roads around the town and it looked as if the river might burst it's banks. However, the new flood defences were not breached.

The first two photos are views of the fast flowing River Wansbeck taken from Telford Bridge during very heavy rain. The third photo is a view of the Xmas decorations still lit up on Bridge Street.
