30 May 2014 - Sheepwash, Northumberland.

This afternoon we visited Wansbeck Riverside Country Park for a walk along the river to Sheepwash.

A pair of swans had built their nest on a small island next to Sheepwash Weir and almost directly below the footbridge which crosses the river. It was possible to watch the swans without disturbing them and many people were doing so on a regular basis.

In the first photo below the female swan was rolling her eggs carefully before settling down on them again, as seen in the second photo. The third photo is a view of both swans, followed by a view of them from the riverside below the bridge.

The last photo is a view of the River Wansbeck, from the riverside footpath further downstream.

19 May 2014 - South Shields Pier.

The first photo below is a view of South Shields Lighthouse with the much larger Tynemouth Lighthouse seen on the north side of the entrance to the River Tyne. The next two photos are views along the pier followed by a view of the South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade watch house beside the pier.

The fifth photo is a view of the dredger Sand Falcon leaving the River Tyne followed by one of the pilot boats. The last photo is a view of another dredger the UKD Marlin which was working between the piers.

13 May 2014 - Whittle Dene Reservoirs, Northumberland.

After we left Corbridge today we stopped at Whittle Dene Reservoirs as the sky was very dark signalling an approaching rain storm and it looked like a good photo opportunity.

The first four photos below are views of one of the reservoirs with the approaching storm and the last photo is a view of a rapeseed field next to the reservoirs, contrasting against the dark sky.

This morning we visited Bothal Woods again to take more photos of the bluebells.

The flowers were now at their best, covering huge areas of the woods with the best display of bluebells we've seen.

The first three photos below are views of the bluebells followed by two views of the Brocks Burn which flows through Bothal Woods on it's way to the River Wansbeck.
