11 December 2012 - Morpeth, Northumberland.
This afternoon we visited Morpeth to have a job done on our car. While it was being done we walked along the river through Carlisle Park to the shops.
The first photo below is a view of St. Georges Church reflecting in the calm water of the river above the weir. The second photo is a closer view towards the footbridge which was being repaired after recent storm damage.
In the third and fourth photos a heron was sitting patiently on the weir hoping for a fish. It was there when we went and still there when we came back!

06 December 2012 - QEII Country Park, Woodhorn, Ashington, Northumberland.
This afternoon we visited Queen Elizabeth II Country Park at Ashington in Northumberland and walked around the lake to Woodhorn Museum. There was still some snow lying after the previous days fall and the lake was frozen around the shore in places.
The first two photos below are views towards the car park beside the hotel on the north side of the lake, with an old pit winding gear wheel.
The third photo is a view of Lakeside Halt station at the north end of the narrow railway that runs to Woodhorn Museum. The fourth photo is a view of a similar wheel at the museum with the original Woodhorn Colliery Pit Head winding gear and engine rooms behind. The museum is well worth a visit.
The last photo is a view of some of the many geese that congregate around the lake at the car park waiting for a feed along with the swans, ducks and other birds.
