29 June 2011 - South Tyne Valley, Northumberland.

This afternoon we drove to Alston along the A689 road from Brampton. Along the way we stopped to take some roadside views across the valley.

The first two photos below are views at the border between Northumberland and Cumbria, followed by a view from further along the road looking in the opposite direction towards Alston.

The fourth photo is a view across the South Tyne Valley to Ayle Common and the last photo is a view across the South Tyne Valley to Newshield Moss where the transmitter mast stands out on the horizon.

29 June 2011 - Lambley Viaduct, Northumberland.

Today we walked along part of the South Tyne Trail following the trackbed of the Haltwhistle to Alston Railway as far as the River South Tyne at Lambley Viaduct. Unfortunately it started to rain as we arrived.

The first photo below is a view looking down from Lambley Viaduct to the footbridge across the River South Tyne. The second photo is a view looking south along the viaduct.

The third photo is a view across the very narrow footbridge followed by a view through the arches of the viaduct. The last photo shows an old buffer on what must have been a siding near Coanwood Station.

08 June 2011 - Corbridge, Northumberland.

We stopped at Corbridge on our return journey from Hexham this afternoon to take a few photos of the bridge across the River Tyne. The first bridge across the river here was built in 1235 and was replaced by the present bridge which was completed in 1674.

The first photo below is a view across the bridge from Corbridge, followed by a view in the opposite direction from the middle of the bridge. The next three photos are views of the bridge taken from the south side of the river.

08 June 2011 - Hexham, Northumberland.

Today we visited Hexham on business and stayed to take some photos along the River Tyne afterwards.

On the way to the river we stopped to take a few photos of the station from the railway bridge just as a train hauled by the steam engine Tornado passed through - perfect timing!

The first three photos below are views of the Tornado and the station followed by two views of the road bridge over the River Tyne.
