31 October 2009 - Bothal Walk, Northumberland.

This afternoon we took advantage of some sunshine for a walk to Bothal, where winter crops are already turning ploughed fields green again.

Below are three photos, the first is a roadside view on the road from Pegswood followed by a view of Bothal Castle. The last photo is a view across the fields near the castle where a tall pine has stood above the rest of the woods for many years.

29 October 2009 - Sheepwash, Northumberland.

Today we visited Wansbeck Riverside Park at Sheepwash in Northumberland to take a few more photos for our Northumberland photo website.

Below are a couple of views of the River Wansbeck looking upstream and downstream from the riverside footpath.

28 October 2009 - Morpeth, Northumberland.

Today we visited Morpeth to take some photos for our Northumberland photo website. A brief period of sunshine was forecast but it didn't last long and was gone before we arrived.

We walked along the riverside footpath to Carlisle Park and took some photos while the remaining colour was still on the trees. Below are three photos taken in Carlisle Park including a pair of Magpies perched on a pergola who briefly posed for the camera.

08 October 2009 - Holy Island Coast Walk, Northumberland.

Today we visited Holy Island to walk around the coast and take photos for our websites. After paying the outrageous car park fees we set off to the north end of the Island which is much less visited than the village harbour areas.

The first photo below is a view of the beach at Coves Haven looking towards Snipe Point. The next photo is a view from the north shore of the Island looking towards Goswick Sands. The third photo is a view of the dunes near Snipe Point. The fourth photo is a view across Holy Island Sands to the mainland and the last photo is a view along the beach north of Emmanuel Head, with the white navigation obelisk seen in the distance.

04 October 2009 - Seaton Sluice Walk, Northumberland Coast.

On an afternoon of changing weather we visited Seaton Sluice for a walk along the beach and around the harbour. It was quite busy and the beach car park was almost full. On the beach there were plenty of people including canoeists who were riding the waves back to the shore.

The first photo below is a view over the harbour looking towards the entrance at high tide. The second photo is a view taken in the harbour looking up towards the Kings Arms Pub, also seen in the next photo.

The fourth photo is a view of the breakwater where the waves were soaking anyone who ventured along it. The last photo is a view along the beach looking north towards Blyth.

01 October 2009 - Amble Harbour Walk, Northumberland.

October already and the weather felt distinctly colder today at Amble on the Northumberland coast.

On a fine but hazy afternoon we walked around the harbour and promenade to the pier which is still only accessible from the lighthouse end and meant running the gauntlet of breaking waves.

The first two photos below are views at the end of the pier to the lighthouse and Coquet Island. The second two photos are views of the quayside with a fishing boat being unloaded in the last photo.
