26 September 2008 - Alnwick Moor and Corby's Crags, Northumberland.

This afternoon we visited Alnwick Moor and nearby Corby's Crags to take photos for our Northumberland website. A sunny afternoon turned a bit hazy later so bright blue skies were not the order of the day.

The first photo below is a view to the coast from Alnwick Moor with Boulmer seen in the distance, while the second photo is a telephoto view from the same location. The third photo is across the moor to the radar site at Brizlee Wood.

The next two photos are of Corby's Crags and the seat with a tremendous view above the crags. Shortly after taking this photo a group of bikers from Liverpool were taking their photos at the seat. They were a very happy bunch of guys as can be seen in the sixth photo. Hopefully they enjoyed their stay at Embleton where they were heading for the weekend. The final photo from this outing is a telephoto view through the haze to the village of Glanton a few miles away.

22 September 2008 - Blyth South Beach and Harbour, Northumberland.

This afternoon we walked along the South Beach at Blyth to the South Harbour. It was a fine but blustery day and cold too, feeling more like December than September.

The first photo below is a view along the beach to St. Mary's Island in the distance. The second photo is a view of a fishing boat passing the lighthouse and entering the River Blyth. The third photo is a view between the piers where it was sheltered and felt much warmer. In the fourth view the South Harbour was quiet with no boats coming or going although a cargo ship was being loaded.

The final view is of a kite boarder on the South Beach just after launching his kite in the brisk wind.

18 September 2008 - Eyemouth Harbour, Scotland.

This afternoon we visited Eyemouth on the Berwickshire coast in Scotland for a walk around the harbour and pier.

Eyemouth is still quite a busy fishing port and there were lots of boats coming and going while we were there. The first two photos below show a fishing boat and dive boat entering the harbour and the third is of a fishing boat from Amble in Northumberland, probably using Eyemouth due to the quayside closure at Amble. The fourth photo is a view of boats in the harbour and the fifth view is of the boat "Guide Us" with gulls lining the quay beside it.

There are also seals in the harbour that wait to be fed and keep visitors entertained popping up and down and jumping for fish thrown for them. The next three photos show these lovely and very well fed creatures posing for the camera. They were joined by the family of swans seen in the last two photos who didn't seem to like the seals and proceeded to hiss and peck at them.

18 September 2008 - Berwick-upon-Tweed.

This morning we visited Berwick town centre to do some shopping. We parked at Tweedmouth and walked across the Old Bridge, stopping to take photos along the way.

The first photo below is a view across the River Tweed to Berwick at low tide. The second photo is a view at the Berwick end of the Old Bridge. The third and fourth photos are views of the Old Bridge from the quayside and the last photo is a view of Marygate in the town centre.

17 September 2008 - Berwick-upon-Tweed at night.

Tonight we visited Berwick and Tweedmouth to take photos of the bridges over the River Tweed at night. The floodlights and bright streetlights on the Royal Tweed Bridge make a good contrast with the more muted lights on the Old Bridge and both make for great reflections in the river. The narrow streets at the Berwick end of the Old Bridge also provide some good photos that can be made to look many years old.

The first photo below is a view from Berwick between the two bridges while the second photo is a view to Berwick from the other side of the river. The third photo is a view of the floodlit Royal Tweed Bridge.

The last two photos are sepia views of the Quay Walls and West Street.

17 September 2008 - Kelso, Scotland.

This afternoon we visited Kelso which lies on the River Tweed near the border in Scotland. Compared to the sunshine on the coast earlier in the day it was very dull and cloudy.

The first photo below is of the flower beds beside Kelso Abbey, looking colourful and neat as always. The second photo is of the town centre and the third photo is a view up the River Tweed to Floors Castle. Compare the weather to a previous visit we made in these Kelso photos.

After we left Kelso we stopped at Carham just across the border in Northumberland to take some photos of the church. The first view of the church is from a short distance along the river Tweed. In the second view, taken from the church gates a bit of dull blue sky made a very brief appearance.

17 September 2008 - River Tweed, Spittal, Northumberland.

This morning we took advantage of a sunny spell to take some photos looking over the River Tweed from Spittal on the south side of the river.

The first three views are across the river to Pier Road in Berwick and the fourth view is to the Quay Walls and Berwick town centre with the town hall clock in the top of the view.

10 September 2008 - Seaham, Durham Coast.

This morning we visited Seaham on the Durham Coast to take photos for a new website we are building. It was a fine sunny morning and we walked from the car park near Seaham Hall along the promenade above the beach, back up onto the seafront and then to the harbour and pier.

The first photo below is a view north along the promenade and beach towards Sunderland. The second and third photos show the seafront with it's white and cream painted buildings gleaming in the sunshine.

The fourth photo is a view of the piers and lighthouse from the seafront above the harbour. The next two photos are of a small cargo ship, the Union Jupiter being unloaded before leaving for Blyth further up the coast. The last photo is another view over the harbour to the piers with one of the dock cranes parked on the quayside.

06 September 2008 - Morpeth Floods.

After many hours of constant heavy rain the River Wansbeck burst it's banks causing severe floods at Morpeth. The river was at it's highest level since records began - an unstoppable raging torrent.

The first two photos below are views from Telford Bridge with the river only just below the nearby footbridge. The third photo shows the river overflowing into St. Georges Church. The fourth photo shows traffic queuing in the rising floods on the north side of the bridge trying to get out of the town. In the fifth photo the river can be seen inches away from the top of the arches of Telford Bridge. The sixth photo shows the weir completely submerged as the water was very close to the top of the flood protection wall.

The last two photos show the river at nearby Bothal where the bridge was flooded with water from the valley sides and the river was flooding the fields.

02 September 2008 - Netherwitton, Northumberland.

This morning we took advantage of the sunshine to take photos of the area around Netherwitton for our Northumberland website.

The first photo below is a view from the road between Netherwitton and Forestburn Gate, looking towards the Coquet Valley, Cragside and Shirlaw Pike.

The second photo is a long telephoto view from the same location looking towards the Cheviots, with Hedgehope Hill in the centre of the scene. The third photo is a view of Rayburn Lake near Netherwitton.
