28 July 2006 - Warkworth Castle, Northumberland.
This morning we visited Warkworth Castle, which overlooks
the River Coquet and can be seen from miles around.
Arriving at 10am we hoped to beat the other visitors
but were wrong as there was a queue to enter.
Although most of the castle is in ruins the keep is
almost intact apart from it's roof and so the castle is well worth
a visit.
This photo shows the keep seen from the south end
of the castle above the entrance.

21 July 2006 - Warkworth Beach, Northumberland
Coast.
This evening we went for a walk along Warkworth Beach
to Amble Breakwater.
It was a very warm evening - even the water did not
feel too cold (for the North Sea!)
In this photo Amble Breakwater can be seen in the
distance while beyond and to the left is Coquet Island.

19 July 2006 - Ladyburn Lake, Northumberland.
Tonight we went for a walk around Ladyburn Lake which
is part of Druridge Bay Country Park.
After the hottest day of the year it became very hazy
near the coast during the evening. Not good for landscape photography,
but OK for taking photos of the wildlife.
These two Geese were feeding on the lakeside and
made a good subject for a close-up photo.

19 July 2006 - Bothal, Northumberland.
A visit to Bothal this afternoon to stock up on photos
of the castle.
Early afternoon is a good time to photograph this
castle in summer as it lies in a deep valley and the sun is high
enough and at the right angle to get a good blue sky.
This photo was taken from the roadside using a
zoom lens as no access is available to get closer.

18 July 2006 - Bamburgh, Northumberland
Coast.
Tonight we went for a circular walk from Bamburgh
to Budle Bay. After a hot sunny day the weather turned very hazy
and dull. It wasn't a very good night for photography but we did
manage few decent shots.
This photo shows Bamburgh Castle seen from the
Village.

17 July 2006 - Near Mitford, Northumberland.
An evening walk near Mitford, west of Morpeth to a
very quiet part of the countryside - so quiet it's location is not
being given away on-line!
In this photo a row of pines is glowing in the
evening sunshine.

17 July 2006 - Felton, Northumberland.
Returning from Alnwick the sun was just at the right
angle to get some photos of the old bridge over the River Coquet
at Felton.
In this photo of the bridge a "real"
telephone box contrasts nicely with the white painted houses behind.

17 July 2006 - Alnwick Castle, Northumberland.
An early start today to take advantage of the fine
weather for some photos of Alnwick Castle.
The best time to take photos of this castle is early
morning as the main face is in shadow later in the day.
This photo was taken from across the River Aln,
zooming in on the main part of the castle.

14 July 2006 - North Shields Fish Quay.
An afternoon taking photos at North Shields Fish Quay
today.
Some of the photos are for our Tyne
Photos website and others are stock photos for commercial use.
In this photo a small sailing ship is moored at
the quayside while a much larger cargo vessel is leaving the River
Tyne and heading out into the North Sea.

13 July 2006 - Bamburgh, Northumberland
Coast.
An early start today to photograph the sunrise at
Bamburgh in north Northumberland, followed by photos further down
the coast.
The sky was completely clear when the sun rose over
the North Sea, casting a warm glow over the dunes and castle. Not
a soul was in sight along the beach at that time in the morning.
This photo shows Bamburgh Castle shortly after
Sunrise, and just after high tide as well.

11 July 2006 - Amble Harbour, Northumberland
Coast.
We were going to Alnwick tonight but the weather inland
looked dull, so instead we went for an evening walk around Amble
Harbour.
It was not long after high tide and fishing boats
had just returned with their catch for unloading into waiting trucks.
This brightly coloured boat was still busy unloading
when we passed and looked sparkling in the evening sun.

10 July 2006 - Bedlington, Northumberland.
We are in the process of making a new section on our
Northumberland Photos website for churches throughout the county.
This means taking photos of churches at places we visit for other
photos to build up a stock.
A while ago we were asked for photos of Bedlington
by an ex-pat, which we took, but it was winter so we said we would
add some summer photos. Today was a fine sunny morning so we combined
the two visits.
This is a photo of St. Cuthberts Church, Bedlington
which was consecrated around 900AD.

04 July 2006 - Kielder Water Reservoir,
Northumberland.
A visit to Kielder to take photos of the lake around
Leaplish Waterside Park, including a boat trip around the lake on
the Kielder Ferry. Midges are a problem here at this time of year
and we got well and truly attacked!
The photos from the circular boat trip will be used
on the Kielder
section of our Northumberland Photos website.

Leaplish Waterside Park.
