31 August 2006 - Prudhoe Castle, Tyne Valley, Northumberland.
A visit to the Tyne Valley today to take photos at Prudhoe and Bywell.
First we visited Prudhoe Castle which sits on a wooded hillside overlooking the River Tyne. This is a small castle but in it's day was an important stronghold. This view shows the east wall and the remains of the kitchen area.

28 August 2006 - Amble, Northumberland
Coast.
A late afternoon walk around Amble Pier and Harbour
again today. With different tides and times of day there always
seems to be something happening in a harbour.
Today the weather threatened downpours which luckily
bypassed Amble while we were there.
These dark rain clouds passed over to the south
to provide a spectacular sky.

26 August 2006 - Simonside, near Rothbury,
Northumberland.
This afternoon we went for a walk at Simonside near
Rothbury.
It was a dull afternoon and it rained while we were
out walking. However, just as we left the clouds broke and the sun
shone, so we stopped to take a few photos before returning home.
This is a view of the Cheviot Hills and Rothbury
from Simonside.

22 August 2006 - Woodhorn Church, Northumberland.
A visit to some churches in South East Northumberland
today for a website project and some stock photos.
The visit included the church of St. Mary The Virgin
at Woodhorn near Newbiggin which is believed to be the oldest church
in Northumberland. The church has been closed for many years and is now
a museum.
This view was taken from the south side of the
church and shows some of the very old grave stones.

21 August 2006 - Coquet Island Lighthouse,
Northumberland Coast.
A walk around the harbour at Amble tonight, not with
photography in mind but we took a camera anyway.
It was nearly dark as we returned along the pier from
the harbour and the light was flashing on Coquet Island Lighthouse
so I took a few photos. It was not until this photo was enlarged
that the reflection in the sea was noticed.
This photo was taken with the camera handheld,
set at ISO 800 and full zoom. However, there is potential for a
much better photo so a return visit with tripod and longer lens
is now planned.

10 August 2006 - Cogra Moss and St Michael's Church,
Lamplugh, Cumbria.
Today we walked around Cogra Moss, a lovely little reservoir lake not far from Ennerdale in the Lake District. Afterwards we made an early evening visit to Lamplugh in West Cumbria
to take some stock photos of St Michael's Church - a small church
set in lovely countryside
This view of the church was taken looking roughly
north with dark clouds passing quickly overhead. The photo below was taken near the outflow from Cogra Moss.

09 August 2006 - Buttermere, Lake District,
Cumbria.
A walk around Buttermere Lake and Village today under
dark skies with the odd sunny interval. A very popular walk which
many other folk were also doing.
We stopped to enjoy some of the great locally made
ice cream on sale in Buttermere Village. The cows it came from also
looked very happy grazing in the fields nearby.
This photo looks east along Buttermere to Fleetwith
Pike and Honister Pass with a pool of sunshine at the end of the
lake.

08 August 2006 - Loweswater, Lake District, Cumbria.
Today we went for a walk around Loweswater in the Lake District. It was a damp afternoon but mild and the walk is sheltered for most of the way around so it was still enjoyable. We didn't expect to take many photos and we were right!
We did, however get this moody view across the lake with dark clouds hovering above the hills, soon to deposit their load onto us.

07 August 2006 - Whitehaven Harbour,
Cumbria.
A visit to the west coast of Cumbria provided the
opportunity for some photography at Whitehaven Harbour.
The old lighthouse at the harbour entrance looks derelict
but is still a good subject for some stock photos.
This photo was taken from the top of the breakwater
looking up the coast towards Workington.
We have a full page of photos from this visit on our Whitehaven Harbour page
