29 April 2006 - Seaton Sluice Harbour,
Northumberland Coast.
A late afternoon walk around the harbour and beach
at Seaton Sluice today. There was a very brisk wind blowing and
the tide was nearly in.
In the harbour all was calm but not so at the entrance.
This is a very difficult harbour for boats to enter and today shows
exactly why, with waves crashing over and past the entrance breakwater.
This photo shows the view from Seaton Sluice Harbour
entrance - on the horizon is Blyth where the wind turbines on the
east pier can be seen.
27 April 2006 - Warkworth Golf Course
and Beach.
Another trip to Warkworth today for yet another attempt
at Castle daffodil photos. The display is better than it was at
the last visit so we got some good photos.
We moved on for a walk along the golf course and beach
after that. The Gorse bushes along the golf course are always very
colourful and are exceptional this year. Few plants can match Gorse
for such a display of colour.
This photo shows the golfers bridge over the gulley
and footpath to the beach with masses of Gorse flowering.
25 April 2006 - Hexham, Tyne Valley.
A business trip to Hexham today provided an opportunity
for some photos in the park in Hexham town centre and later in Corbridge.
The photos will be used to update pages on our Northumberland
website.
In this photo bowlers were enjoying a game on lush
greens in the spring sunshine.
24 April 2006 - Beadnell Bay, Northumberland
Coast.
Today we did the walk we were going to do yesterday
- from High Newton along the beach to Beadnell and returning along
the footpath behind the dunes.
It was a lovely morning but with a strong cold wind
blowing. The beach in Beadnell Bay is one of the best anywhere and
we hardly saw a soul until we were nearly at Beadnell Harbour.
Details and photos of the walk will be added to our
Northumberland
Walks website.
This photo shows Beadnell Harbour the only harbour
on the east coast of England whose entrance faces west. In the distance
are the Cheviot Hills.
23 April 2006 - Garden Photography.
We had intended going for a walk along the coast at
Beadnell today but it was very warm in our sheltered garden so we
opted for sitting in the sun instead.
All the flowers are later this year and our winter
flowering pansies are only now coming to full bloom.
This one had a funny face and I couldn't resist
taking it's photo.
17 April 2006 - Upper Coquetdale and
Cheviot Hills.
We visited upper Coquetdale today with the intention
of walking up into the hills. However the wind was very strong and
made walking a chore instead of enjoyable. So we shortened the walk
and decided on a visit all the way up the valley instead to enjoy
the fantastic views and take photos.
This part of the Cheviot Hills provides some of the
best panoramic views in Northumberland and is very remote. The photos
will be added to our Northumberland
Cam website in the near future.
Here is a photo of the River Coquet near Chew Green
Roman Camps - a mere stream here compared to the photo below at
Amble!
16 April 2006 - River Coquet, Amble.
Today was another walk around the harbour at Amble
and although it was a blustery day, the sky was ideal for nice pictures.
Here is a shot looking across the River Coquet
to the dunes behind Warkworth Beach.
14 April 2006 - Warkworth Castle.
Another attempt to get photos of the daffodils surrounding
Warkworth Castle today. It looks like being a bad year and not as
good a display as normal.
However there were a reasonable number blooming on
the east side of the castle as this photo shows.

the east.
09 April 2006 - Blyth South Pier and
Beach, Northumberland Coast.
A late afternoon walk today along Blyth South beach
to the South harbour and Pier.
It was very sunny, but a strong wind was blowing which
was very cold on the pier (not many people fishing today!) but good
for taking photos if you could hold the camera steady.
This photo was taken on Blyth West Pier looking
back to the beach.
05 April 2006 - Boulmer, Northumberland
Coast.
Another attempt for photos at Warkworth Castle failed
as there were still very few daffodils flowering around the castle.
Looks like it may be a bad year for that.
Instead we went to Boulmer and walked north along
the beach to Sugar Sands.
Here is a photo of the tractors used to haul fishing
cobles on the beach at Boulmer.
04 April 2006 - Stannington.
A visit to Stannington, a few miles south of Morpeth
in Northumberland, this morning to take photos of the Church of
St Mary the Virgin.
The original church here dates back to the 12th century
but was demolished and replaced by the present church in the 19th
century.
This photo was taken from across the road outside
the churchyard.
01 April 2006 - Amble.
A fine day so we headed to Warkworth to take photos
of the daffodils that surround the castle.
However, we were still a few days early as there were
not many flowering yet. So we went back along the road to Amble
and walked around the harbour.
Some early April showers arrived not long after
we did and created a rainbow that stretched right across the pier
as this photo shows.
